Farmbucks

Feeding our community & supporting our local farmers

The Farmbucks Program subsidizes local food for charities and schools. Your donation helps feed vulnerable community members and supports farmers in our region.

Food producers in our region have fresh and healthy food ready to sell. Local charities and schools are connecting food insecure families and individuals in our community with nutritious food boxes and meals. The South Island FarmHub and the Farmbucks Program connect these two community needs.

The program was founded in 2020 in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, when farmers had a surplus of produce to sell amid restaurant closures and uncertainty swirling around seasonal farmers markets. With the help of Farmbucks, charities were able to purchase subsidized produce and pantry items from the South Island FarmHub and distribute it to community members who most needed it.

This program, funded by grants and donations, continues to deepen its impact: In 2022 alone, Farmbucks paid for over $110,000 of locally grown, fished, and made foods to feed more than 15,000 people in Greater Victoria.
