Work Experience Opportunities Grants-
Multiple Positions

CRFAIR is a not-for-profit community based organization that acts as a coordinating backbone to a network of food, farm and health organizations (The Good Food Network) working to promote healthy and sustainable food systems in the Capital Region. We work hand in hand with key partner Victoria Community Food Hub Society (VCFHS) in effort to ensure that food systems provide healthy food to the most vulnerable people in our community and to increase their resources, food skills and social connections for a healthier future. Collectively we have three (3) work experience placements available; these positions are funded with Work Experience Opportunities Grants from the BC Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation.  

 

The position available through the South Island FarmHub: 

Processing Assistant

Do you love local salads and blending up tomatoes?  South Island FarmHub is looking for a Processing Assistant to help us create delicious food made with produce grown on local farms! This is a physical position working with a team in a certified food processing kitchen.  The work environment is fast-paced and systems-based, but also upbeat and high energy!

  • Start date: before October 3, 2022

  • Length: 12 weeks

  • Hours: 15 hours/week

  • Pay (by stipend): $600 biweekly (or $3,600 for the full 12-week period)

  • APPLY BY SEPTEMBER 12th

 

To be considered for a position, and due to the nature of the grants, applicants must be either

  • an individual qualified to receive BC income or disability assistance, or

  • qualified to receive assistance from a Treaty First Nation that is funded through the Federal Department of CrownIndigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada; or

  • qualified to receive assistance from a First Nation Administering Authority that administers an Income Assistance Program on behalf of Indigenous Services Canada.

 

Note: applicants do not need to be actively in receipt of income or disability assistance payments from the BC Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation (see BC social supports eligibility) or the Government of Canada.

 

For applicants who are receiving income assistance, the stipend associated with this position is exempt from BC income eligibility calculations and will not affect the eligibility of individuals participating. Individuals will need to declare the stipend to the ministry for tracking purposes.

Victoria Community Food Hub-
Operations Manager

Are you an entrepreneurial team player who is excited about supporting local food businesses to incubate and thrive? This role is part relationship/community building and part facilities management with operational oversight of the facility and a small team. You will have a hand in developing, creating and implementing systems to ensure the food hub is welcoming, operational, clean, safe and profitable. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator who enjoys working with their peers, is detail-oriented, has a strong focus on building relationships in the food community and experience in the workings of a commercial kitchen or processing centre.
